Insta-Worthy Food Creations at Rustic & Blue
Rustic & Blue is famed for its unique, Melbourne-like food creations and beautiful, Instagram-worthy dish presentation. The cafe’s outdoor setting is beautiful, with a wide open space covered by trees in the heart of Chiang Mai’s Nimman area.
The music they played the morning I went was perfect - all of my favourite artists collected on a playlist - making me feel right at home. The food combined with the setting made for some dreamy, atmospheric shots.
I went for the Awesome French Toast (french toast or pancakes seemed to be my Chiang Mai go-to dish for judging if a place is worth returning to) and acai smoothie bowl (something healthy and fresh!). I also got a pumpkin spice latte, which had a slightly sweet taste to it, solely from the pumpkin (I asked a couple of times to be perfectly sure it had no added sugar or syrup). At first I wasn’t quite sure how much of a pumpkin spice latte fan I would be (the pumpkin naturally settles at the bottom giving it a strange look), but once I tried it, I actually quite enjoyed it! I liked the natural sweetness it had to it.
The French Toast however didn’t really do it for me. It comes with passion fruit lemon curd, which I’m not a big fan of, its strong tanginess seemed to overpower everything else. The smoothie bowl was nice, though only while it’s still cold.
I also also ordered their special Vanilla Earl Grey, which I loved! I got rather excited by their extensive drinks menu and the options for tea and coffee, ranging from your usual lattes and espresso options to bulletproof coffee, to a variety of chai teas, to an array of green teas, herbal teas and rooibos options. There is also a turmeric latte. Something for everyone, whether you want caffeine or not. They also have cashew milk, as well as coconut and soy as alternatives to dairy. It would be worth coming here just for the teas and drink options.
I wouldn’t recommend coming here to get work done, their wifi seemed pretty bad and I couldn’t see any power outlets. And even though it wasn’t very busy early on a Tuesday morning, it’s definitely more of a brunch place to come to with friends, treat yourself (reflected in the prices, which are pretty much the same as in Australia), and take some Instagram-worthy shots.
