A Hobbit, Spaceship, Tropical Breakfast Love Story - SS1254372 Cafe
Being a photographer and choosing my food according to the looks of it, I spend a good amount of time looking at food pictures. I had seen several tropical french toast creations all over the internet before coming to Chiang Mai, and that’s exactly what I wanted for breakfast on my very first morning there. And I sure ended up finding the best one at SS1254372 Cafe.
I would come back to Chiang Mai just for this place! Everything on the menu looked amazing (there are three French Toast variations!), they serve almond milk, and the space has a very creative, artsy vibe to it. Unsurprisingly, as the cafe is part of a gallery and studio owned by one of Thailand’s famous artists, Hern.
I loved coming to SS1254372 for breakfast and staying for work afterwards. The unique space reminded me of being back at arts uni (in a good way), and got my inspiration and creative juices flowing.
While the space is inspired by Spaceship Seescape and meant to remind of a spaceship’s interior, I felt like being inside a Hobbit house. Either way, such a cool feeling.
Everything in the space is upcycled and created by Hern himself. The table tops have to be the most beautiful ones I’ve yet come across, compiled of various colourful and intricate tiles. There are plants everywhere, and even the bathrooms are cool, with magazines, oil lamps, and free mosquito spray.
I went back to SS1254372 at least a couple of times a week, eating my way through their menu. I loved all of it, though before leaving in Chiang Mai I made a point to order the Tropical French Toast for breakfast again, one last time. It became my first and last tropical-spaceship-Hobbit breakfast love adventure.
