Slow Living made Stylish - The Slow, Canggu
The Slow in Canggu is a lot all in one: boutique accommodation, all-day dining, drinks, art, local culture, and interactive retail. It’s a contemporary, immersive experience of Canggu, perfect for anyone with an eye for detail or appreciation for design. Think Cereal mag opening a space.
I went for breakfast, which comes with a huge selection of amazing sounding, looking and tasting dishes. Even better, they do Sunday brunch from 11am-3pm. If I was travelling to Canggu with friends, this is the place I would come to every weekend for brunch!
My breakfast indulgence saw me treating myself to pumpkin and buckwheat hotcakes with cashew nut cream and burnt orange, banana and jackfruit bread with passionfruit and coffee nectar, as well as a few healthy drinks - I tried their T-03 (Apple, white turmeric, pineapple vinegar tonic), E-04 (beetroot, carrot, and apple ginger cold-pressed juice), and I-04 (lemon leaf, earl grey tea, lemongrass, vanilla infusion).
Unfortunately they ran out of coconut milk quite early on in the day (which seemed a bit strange to me), but other than that I had a great breakfast experience there. When I arrived at The Slow around 8am, there was only one other person working on her laptop having breakfast. It only got a bit busier towards lunch time.
The restaurant has a nice, relaxed, calm, open-space atmosphere. It feels like a great place to work from, especially because it was so calm and quiet. I often prefer that to the more packed “coworking type” feel cafes when I’m trying to get work done while travelling (their wifi seemed pretty good too!). I also liked the clean, well-designed interior - it was inspiring, especially on a that early morning.
The Slow has to be any designer’s, architect’s, and photographer’s dream - it’s clean, simple, well-designed. The Slow could easily be a London or Melbourne boutique design hotel - only that it’s set in Canggu, which makes you completely forget that you’re in Bali while you’re here. This could be a good or bad thing of course. I liked it (obviously), perhaps because I enjoy working from hotel lobbies and love that kind of atmosphere.
Also, everything that has the word “slow” in it has to be great - I’m all for slow living, slow travel, slow work, slow eating, slow everything. Their hashtag (and wifi password) even is #takeitslow.
If you need a break from fast and busy Canggu life, head to The Slow - preferably on a weekend. Or just stay at their hotel and enjoy the full slow experience.
